Saturday April 5 marked a special day for the Healthy Start team – our first session in Toowoomba!
Our Toowoomba trial session involved 20 clients from Afghanistan. The ladies were keen to engage, and we were glad to see that our modules were interactive and involved lively discussion between students and clients! The morning featured our general health, nutrition, GP/emergency and medication modules, with our team delivering our women’s health module in the afternoon.
Both students and clients enjoyed the day, demonstrating that health promotion can be both education and enjoyable!
Many thanks to our wonderful partners – MDA, QRME and Medicare Local – who provided us with rooms, catering, funding and cultural support workers. Healthy Start would not be possible without them, and we’re very grateful! Thanks also to the Griffith exec who travelled to Toowoomba for the session, and to the 4 Toowoomba UQ medical students who also came along to assist.
After the success of our trial, the Healthy Start team is looking forward to continuing our work in Toowoomba in 2014!
